The HB goes on until its stops, you can't put it on the crank to far, so just install it until it will no longer go on.

Note: Do not use the HB bolt to run on the HB there are special tools for this job, chances of stripping the crank threads are pretty good, also don't use a hammer to install the HB that can and will be hard on the crank bearings.

Seal will not go all the way flush either. See the pics further up in this thread.
