Some gear noise is to be expected, but not a lot. If you are worried about the noise go back to the shop and Bit** hard. I now understand why you asked about the lash.

Ok that's good.. I killed my first set by not following the procedure right so I like to stress the proper break in lol

Yep....back to the shop I would go! I have never heard any rear end noise on any vehicle I have owned, and there is and has been many of them.

So I see the break in procedure you guys are talking about.....but why is this not applicable to new vehicles? Are they run in at the factory or something? I've bought new trucks before and fromthe get go - drove 'em like I stole 'em! Never had a diff problem. just wondering.

I heat cycle new automotive r&p gears two times, then drive it normally, never had an issue. There are lot's of op's on this, some drive them hard from the get go others baby them.

Merc, you just drive for 20 minutes then let them cool off twice and that is it? That would be much easier than what I am doing.

That's essentially what I did. A couple of trips of 10-12 miles, cooling off between, and then don't worry about it. I bought my diff. from Yukon and that's their recommendation for break in. I only have about 300 miles on it since the rebuild and haven't done anything hardcore. I'll take it easy at least until the 500 mile lube change, after that who knows.
