Default Carrier for the 9.25

Ok so here is the scenario. I have a brand new carrier it is installed with brand new ring and pinion and it is all set up. I need to know if I can take that carrier out, take the ring gear off( to put on tone ring) and then put it back in. Without re adjusting the backlash?

Keep in mind no bearing or shims will be touched just the carrier out and ring gear taken off and then put back together.

I would do the job, then, using some marking compound to check the gear pattern. If the pattern looks good, don't worry about. If not, adjust as necessary.

Couple of things

If you take the carrier out you will have to reset the lash no if or butts about that, you have to back off the side adjusters to get the carrier out of the diff.

Never re-use those ring gear bolts

Never use the bolts to pull on the ring gear

Mark the ring-gear to to the carrier so as it goes back on in the same spot.

What happened was the carrier and gears were installed by a shop everything was set up right. Brand new ring gear bolts were used. It was taken for about a 5 minute test drive and realized they left out the tone ring because there was no speedometer. They then pulled the carrier out took the ring gear off put on the tone ring and. Put the ring gear back on. I asked about and I know that they reused the Ring gear bolts and they said that there was no need to reset backlash because they were not changing anything just taking out the carrier and ring gear.

They had to re-set the lash there is no if's or butts about it. As long as it was done right don't worry about it. There are no side bearing shims in a 91/4 rear end, just adjusters on each side of the carrier, the only place shins are used is on the pinion bearing.

i got a chance to drive the truck Again and those of you who read my other thread know i just had brand new 4.10 motive ring and pinion and detroit truetrac installed.

Anyways i drove it with the windows down and noticed i have gear whine at around 75 km\h also whenever i let off the gas and coast. I then started paying more attention and when i brake and slow down i have fairly loud gear whine and can actually feel a slight vibration in the floor of the truck.

That probably is not right i would imagine?

Idk what that is in mph but you shouldn't have the truck near highway speeds for some time. You should also be doing short trips about 30 miles at the most while letting the truck sit long enough to completely cool down. After the first 300 miles you can start doing highway trips and should change the fluid after 500 miles

^^^ Dlyter I am following the gear brake in procedure in the gears section in the DIY/FAQ . I have not taken the truck over 75 km/h which is 45 mph have been varying my speeds and driving 15 minutes then sitting for at least 20 minutes.
