I've heard of cracked fleplates making some nasty noises while running.

Visually check the gear on TC very closely. Also, may look at edge of flex plate for debris, and pull crank sensor from behind pass head. See if the end of it is chewed off. That would kill it.

For sure something I'm really worried about were towing it back to my house tomorrow hoping nothing internal but it is a possibility

Cracked flexplates will indeed make some truly rude noises, but, only when under load. Just idling in neutral, or park, should be quiet as a church mouse. Put it in any gear though, and better have hearing protection.

If it makes rude noises when not in gear..... I think you have larger problems.
