Default exhaust on 2001 5.2L?

Im wanting to add a little rumble to my new-to-me goat. Im a little strapped on cash so I'm contemplating just putting a Flowmaster Super 44 muffler underneath it. Will this match up with the stock exhaust? ANd will it sound any better? I do plan on replacing all the stock pipe eventually and throwing some headers on it as well. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

i have super 40's on my 01 i cut the stock muffler off right at the front then welded my flows. granite i have the 5.9 but it still sounds great. i believe the piping is 2.5 or 2 3/4" piping.

Thanks. I guess it would help if I got under there and checked out what I'm dealing with. I was told it was 3" to the cat, 2.5 to the muffler, 3 inch back. Gonna have to do some measuring I guess. I'm also thinking about going with the super 10 now. Any thoughts? I want the rumble, but also the added performance.

dont go with a flowmaster. theyre junk! i had a super 10, and the muffler case split open within 2 months of being on my truck. get a cherry bomb extreme, or a cherry bomb glass pack.

flowmasters are the worst muffler design on the market. they rob power, and its been proven on flow tests.

i have a guttet cat on my 01, with a glass pack. sounds mean! all you need is some 2 1/2" adapters, muffler of your choice with a 2 1/2" i/o and some clamps, or a welder.

Im not sure about that. i had flowmasters on mu truck and loved them. Sounded real nice and gave me a small performance increase. Best of all it seemed to help throttle response. But i was running a cat back system with duals.

yeah, they sound nice, but the rob power big time. you only think it gave you power, just by the sound of it. id bet if you dynoed it, before and after, it would show the flowmaster robbed power. i will never run flowmaster ever again! magnaflow's are a straight thru design, and thats what youre going to want.

At one point, I did some research on just this topic. Most of what I found was pretty consistent, and did a good job of proving that the muffler has little or no impact on performance at all. There were even dyno charts using various mufflers, including stock..... I think the difference between 'best' and 'worst' was less than 3 horsepower.

I linked to the article in one of my previous posts, but, that has been a month or three ago.

Ok, new idea. Since as I said, im strapped for cash currently. (buying an engagement ring) What if i was to buy the flowmaster super 44 with dual out and dump it in front of the rear axle? Then later when finances permit I can dual it out the rear like I want. Will this lose me any power? Fuel mileage? Im pretty sure my back pressure will drop. Any ideas? I want the rumble, but also the little extra performance.

You can do that. The longer pipes won't make any noticeable difference in power, only in volume.
