use old motors in newer rams?
thanx crazywolf theres some good info there, now the big stumper is what to do about mounts,1 bolt per side will never work with the 360,and fabing them i just dont see feasable unless there is an alternative?
im suprised that this hasnt been figured out,any info would be awesome on some custom mounts, solid is a lil too harsh for this guy,ill wait and see what i can find elsewhere, thanx 4 all the input so far!
the reason it has not been figured out is no one is doing it. why would you want to stick a less powerful engine in your truck? most people are doing it the other way around and sticking magnum engines in place of there LA engine.
this motor has keith black 10.5.1 pistons 474 cam with adj rockers stainless valves, balanced, ported, with some small touches myself,it wasa broken in on my power wagon and would roast 38 inch tires,im not a fan of the new motors,i have broken alot more of them than the old ones, and trust me ive owned at least 150 mopars since i was 13,so im just sayin i love the old motors, and less power, not at all,you can pound em hard if there built right!
I completely agree. The Magnum 360 block is a much better platform for a build, and can be built just as strong and powerful as an older LA block. Overall it's a very similar block, but the addition of roller lifter capability, better coolant flow, improved oil flow, and abundance make it a great choice.
Trust me, KaosKelly, I love the old engines too. As mentioned, I removed the Slant 6 from a 1978 D100, and replaced it with an LA 360. Not bad of a swap at all. I followed that with a Magnum 360. WOW. I also had a 1978 Ramcharger that I bought with a nice LA 360 and I replaced it with 440. I had a 1973 International Scout II and replaced the 304 with a 400...the big block.
I've had a lot of fun with old Mopars, but if money is going to be spent, build a Magnum. On top of that, you can carb a Magnum. I made my own plug wires, and even made my own power steering lines so I could use an old gear box with a new pump and use the Magnum serpentine system.
Try to get 250K+ out of an LA block 318... and still have minimal bore wear...
The idea I posted earlier was a joke. It would be really stupid haha. I don't see why, if you are bent on the swap, you don't build the mounts yourself. It's easy... Take a few measurements, mock up some cardboard ones, then cut and weld.

Might have been figured out. Call or email Schumacher Creative Services.

I haven't used them or their service but a quick Google search turned up a lot of results and it seems that if someone already makes and sells a set of mounts to put an LA 360 in place of a Magnum 360, they'd be the first place to start looking.
