Default '01 slave cylinder question

I recently replaced the clutch and tranny in my truck. This job is possible on the ground in ND in January (not much fun though). I had the NV4500 done locally and went with a South Bend 12" clutch. Now I'm hearing a kinda loud clicking when its in neutral. Called SBC and he said that's probably just the springs chattering a little and its expected with a HD unit like this. My question is... if the slave cylinder is going out, would there be less pre-load on the pressure plate, and might replacing it get the noise to go away? It is quiet when I apply a little pressure to the pedal. Thanks for any help.

How much pressure do you have to put on the pedal to make it stop?

Not much. Feels like I'm just beginning to get pressure on the fingers of the pressure plate when it quiets down. Sometimes I can push the pedal in, then release it fast and the noise doesn't come back until I push and release the pedal again. I know at 170,000 miles its probably time for a slave and master cylinder, but I'm just wondering about that noise in my new clutch. Doesn't sound good.

Wonder if the throwout bearing pulls just a touch too far back from the p-plate, and what you are hearing is the fingers occasionally making contact with the bearing..... If that's the case, no big deal really, just annoying..... It doesn't sound like an internal trans problem.... if you jack up the rear, and have the truck idling in first, will it make the same sound?

Can't hear it moving in first, haven't jacked it up though. Annoying, yes, very. I think Ill go ahead and replace the slave and master and see what happens. I think both together are around $110. Thanks for the input.

I don't think that will make a difference.... when you replaced the clutch, did you also replace the throw-out bearing?

I think they are sealed...... at least, the factory units are. No bleeder valves at all.

Throw out bearing is new. Came with the clutch kit. No I haven't bled it. There are no bleeder valves like on the brakes, you just have to get the entire assembly off and hang it so the reservoir is at the top, then work the parts so all the air comes up. I found this on YouTube, just haven't done it. Probably will today, Ill post my results.

Well I wish I'd have done that a long time ago. I bled the lines and reinstalled the system. The noise is gone, it shifts much smoother and the pedal feels better. I did notice some leakage under the master cylinder so it will need to be replaced sometime, but not today.
