Fast Idle after jump start
Hello.
I have a 2001 Ram Sport 4x4, 5.2. I had to jump it two days ago and ever since it constantly idles at 1100rpm. I tried resetting the PCM (neg disconnect) twice but still no joy.
No codes.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Try this, and disconnect the battery before doing so. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-r...n-the-iac.html
welcome to DF.
reset PCM by disconnecting negative battery cable and turning on the headlights for 30 seconds. this drains the memory in the PCM.
next thing to beware of, is that a low battery condition can screw up the idle, although usually the problem is low idle, not fast idle like you have. but anyway, if your battery is not 12v when not running and 13+ when it is running, it can affect idle.
reset pcm and give it a chance to fix itself.

After trying unsuccessfully to reset the PCM and checking everything else (vacuum leak, loose wire, bound cable) in order to resolve this problem I pulled the TPS and IAC from the TB.
The IAC, though sparkly clean from me keeping it that way, was frozen. Couldn't get it to free up so I ordered a new one that should be in tomorrow.
Should have listened to zman and checked there first, but since I keep the thing cleaned out it didn't occur to me that there might be an actual failure of the part.
Could the jump have zapped it? Seems like a hellacoincidence.

It's a stepper motor. You can't simply push/pull the pintle, and expect it to move.
Easy test is, put it back in, reset PCM, Stick your head over the throttle body, and have a buddy turn the key on. IAC should run itself all the way out, closing off the port, and then back off a bit. If it misses either trick, it's bad.

I thought you could move them. I pulled it out of the TB (no one to help) and turned the key on, it didn't move. Though maybe it needs ground contact?
Whatever, I'll be putting the new one on tomorrow and we'll see what happens. If that's not the problem I can take it back.
