Default Tranny Issue?

I have an '01 Ram 1500 (Automatic) 4*4. I've got 109,000 Miles on her and have had her for a year. Bought it last summer but in the fall in the morning time when you got to about 30-35MPH the RPM would go up to the 3 an she wouldn't go to the nxt gear. So I have to shift to NURTRAL then back to Drive an she run's fine. It was everyonce in a while but now this summer she's doing it on regular basis. Honestly is it my Tranny or something less costly!!?

First thing to do would be to drop the pan, and see what you find. If you don't find anything nasty (large piles of metal shavings) you can try and clean the governor pressure sensor and solenoid... or, simply replace them with better units. (borg warner heavy duty pieces.) Band adjustment may not hurt either.

Possible. TPS is easy to test, more likely to be governor pressure sensor/solenoid though I should think.

+1 on presure sensor and solenoid. Also band adjustment may need tto be checked/adjusted....and do it before you burn the clutches. When it revs to 3000, what is actually happening is the piston is attempting to engage the clutches, and they are slipping. When they slip, they tend to burn.

TPS can cause things to react badly, but I agree with HeyYou. Checking TPS is easy enough, but I suspect governor realted parts in tranny. That being said, the TPS, TV cable AND pressure sendor and solenoid must all be functioning properly!

+3 on the gov solenoid. And if its getting clogged , the tranny itself is not too far behind.

And +1 on iff it is getting clogged it is close to rebuild time. The matrerial clogging it is the material that is wearing off the frictions when it slips. Once this starts to break down, it will do so until there is nothing left. This will also blue the steels in the clutches, damaging them as well.

To install new frictions and clutches will require complete rtebuild as this crud travels throughout the transmission.

Band adjustment along with dropping pan, new gasket and atf+4 fluid cost me around 275.00 a few years ago and bought me about a year. Then it was rebuild time.
