2001 Ram 2500 No Power No Bus - stumped
Ok Thanks For these.
I am going out now to trace it down.
@HeyYou you are right I am getting some power at the ignition.
when i turn the key I can hear the relay on the fusepanel in the dash click.
Also saw the ebrake light come on when i put it on yesterday, and the passenger air bag light glows yellow when key is on.
I will test
@techengineer - I will test the alternator today as well. If it turns out to be the problem I sure would like to hear what the explanaton is

found 1 problem
got the truck to run again.
Seemed to be a bad ground.
still have the no bus.
truck starts and runs then after about 10 seconds the odometer turns to no bus and the engine light comes on.
think its a different problem as it was doing this before the truck shutdown.

So I pull out of the shop and drive to the house and bam SHUTDOWN.
I now think i see what caused it.
As soon as i flip the steering column up (TILT).
Sure enough I play with the tilt steering and the dash power comes back on though it took a liitle more fiddling with the tilt / and shifter to get it to start again.
I had half the dash off yesterday so coincidentally got it back to where it would run normally so I thought I had fixed it when I re-did the grounds from the battery.
Anyways At least I have a place to start now on the steering column.

These things are notorious for wires getting pinched in the tilt column. With the knee panel off, check all the wires. Disconnect battery first so you don't burn it down. I had a monkey's nest under the column when I got my Ram. Some people should NOT be allowed to wire stuff! Lots of added joints and splices under there!
I agree. The more I dig into this truck the less happy I am about the previous owner,s skills.
Anyways I found the problem. It was the main wiring plug into the ignition. It was pulled slightly out to one side and causing intermittent connections especially when the tilt was up.
I still have the no bus after 10-20 seconds and have found that I do not have panel lights/ dash illumination - dimmer switch does nothing and i have to check but I don't think I have High/low beams as the light does not come on the dash when high beams turned on and the headlights do not seem to change either.

The Air bag light stays on as well and the plug behind the brake master cylinder i think is for abs or for airbags is disconnected on purpose. Not sure Why.

Need to solve the no bus before worrying about ABS, or Air Bag lites. (they may be symptoms, and not issues in and of themselves.)
Take a look at the wiring behind the headlight switch. That is another known problem area on these trucks.
