2001 Ram 2500 No Power No Bus - stumped
Hi - I have a 2001 Ram 2500 4x4 360 auto
Drove it into the shop a couple of days ago and as it rolled in it Shut-Down.
I have No power to the ignition, dash, fuel pump, or radio.
I do have headlights, blower motor.
I checked all fuses with test light, alternated a few relays temporarily to see if I would get anything and Nothing.
Prior to this happening when I hit a bump in the road the radio would cut in and out so I presumed I had a loose wire somewhere.
Also the Odometer would consistently go from reading the mileage to no bus.
I have only owned the truck for a week but I have 2 other 2001 Dodges a Durango R/T and a 1500 Ram 4x4. I liked them both enough to buy another 2001 as I needed the 3/4 ton so I bought this one. It seems to have some problems to work out.
Any Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

When that happened to me it was a bad alternator... exact symptoms. Lights flickered at first, but then the radio was flaky like a loose wire or something... then it will die. They are only about 65 at NAPA... be sure to get the 120amp. But get the alternator tested first.

Thanks for the replies. Did a more thorough inspection of the wiring yesterday and still no luck
I dont know how an alternator would create this problem. If it was totally dead I would still have power to the ignition.

Two wires should have 12 volts at ignition switch.
Pink w/ black trace from fuse 2 in PDC. (30a)
Red from fuse 10 in PDC. (50a)
Blower motor itself is powered from the relay in the PDC, relay is controlled by ignition switch, so, you have to be getting SOME power to the ignition switch.
Dash gets it's clues from the central timer module. If you are having an ASD event, Dash won't be powered......
Radio is also power thru ignition switch......

If it was an ASD shutdown, then it would have set a DTC but it won't always turn on the CEL, unless the ASD system itself was faulty. @drifterdave, just have the alternator checked. It shouldn't cost you anything to test the alternator. Yes, the alternator will cause you this problem. I don't have time to explain right now but like I said just check the alternator. BTW if the alternator went bad it probably will have damaged the battery as well. Specs: With tow package, the alternator should read no lower than 100 amp output. W/o tow package, 80 amps.
