Question IAT relocation

I have a AutoChipsDirect PowerBox wired to my IAT in the stock location, and the "seat of the pants" dyno says its got more umph over stock. Was wondering, if I relocate the sensor to the intake tube or some other place thats a little cooler with the box still wired on, would the effect stack together for extra output, or not? Just a thought.

Sorry, but . Waste of time and money on all counts.

Yep x2. Our PCM compensate for readings outside of a given value. No gains from either.

You will see some initial gains.... but, I suspect it won't be enough to feel. What you ARE feeling is probably simply because you expect to.

Fooling the PCM into thinking the intake air is cooler than it really is just causes the engine to run a bit rich, and maybe a little more timing, right up until it goes into closed loop, then IAT has significantly less of an affect. Moving IAT to a cooler location accomplishes the exact same thing, (and yes, they will stack...) but, only in open loop. In closed loop, O2 sensor has final say on mixture, so, the IAT is basically ignored for that portion, and all that 'power' evaporates.

I had to relocate mine when I did the airgap . Not sure if it would do anything to a stock motor

+1... as good an explanation as written anywhere..

on an aside, and because it isn't worth starting a thread all about this:

My IAT is in the duct between the filter box and the hat.. that entire duct, box, and hat are insulated.. (shoot me, I was bored one night).. add to that the good hood scoop snatching cooler air from outside the engine compartment, and it all adds up to my intake temps being considerably lower..

if you ever wanted to trick an IAT to see what happens, I don't think you could get a better test bed than what I have..

In the winter, with ambient temps in the 40's, and truck at operational 180*, my intake temps at highway speeds are/were in the twenties easily.. do you know what it did?

It sucked a lot of floggin' gas.. a lot.. at highway speeds, I'm sure there was a little bump in gogo- but who the hell needs a bump at that range? we need it down low...

Now, in the middle of a decent heat wave- ambient temps around 90*, operational temps @ 180*, intake is around 70*.. I'm running leaner.. I like it, because the little needle that indicates fuel level doesn't move so quickly.. power wise, it's not as smooth (because it's not as rich), but it is at least equiv power to what it is normally..

synopsis: I've got a cool looking hood with a ridiculously insulated air intake passage, that does nothing but allow cooler (denser) air in the motor.. that DOES add up to power in theory, but I can't tell you it's worth it..

but you're NOT adding cooler air with the IAT trick.. you're just letting it lie to your PCM.. which simply makes you run richer- and only for a little while..

you'd be better served wasting your money on some 30hp stickers, dude..

30 HP stickers? Isn't that what the import tuner guys use on their cars, and a fart pipe? Thanks for the input folks
