Ham Bone I know the ABS light always comes on. That lets me know that the truck is supposed to be equipped with ABS. Ive had ABS breaks before and this truck doesn't have abs.

Yes I was driving 5 miles over the limit no the road wasn't slick just that one ramp none of the other roads was like it was. None the less the point here is that the brakes arent working properly.

When it first starts raining is when the roads are the most dangerous. All the crap that accumulates on them floats up, and lubricates the road rather nicely, until is gets washed away. (provided it rains hard enough.) You probably have RWAL..... which is about like having NO anti-lock brakes... if all four are sliding, the pcm thinks the truck is stopped in any event..... Not sure what algorithms it wants to use to make that particular decision, but, I do know they suck.

Inspect your brakes. See what everything looks like, including the fluid. Anything ya don't like, change. There are some upgrades available as well, but, I think you already have the dual piston front calipers?

i think in order to really feel what the rwal does you have to drive an old school truck without it. i definitely seem to notice it in 93 after driving my 81 for so long. instead of the back end sliding around when the roads are wet the whole vehicle just goes straight.

My 96 does the same thang every now and the I go hit the brakes and it just goes to the floor I get nothing from it then other times I go to hit the brakes and there so stiff its like I gotta put all my wait on them to push it down some to stop then I get a hissing sound of air from my brake peddles when I'm stopped at a light or something weird

I keep hearing how bad the brakes are on these trucks.....but I cannot for the life of me figure out what the heck you are all talking about! Mine work great, even pulling my 18' car trailer or my Kar Kaddy with another car behind it.

And it was raining in Mesquite yesterday? Send that stuff a couple hours west! Drier than a popcorn phart here!

i would guess most people problems are lack of maintenance. i tear my rear brakes apart at least once a year even if everything is working fine just to know it is all good and nothing is seized.
