Mine were crap when I got the truck, but brakes is one of the first things I did on it. And I was shocked that there were pieces actually MISSING from each of the rear brakes. Almost never found all the hardware I needed! But they are working flawlessly now. Maintenance is probably the issue. I always change before pads or linings actually need to be replaced.

Yeah, brakes is one of the first things I look at on any used vehicle purchase. Mine are rather touchy..... but, I have a 3/4 ton that is driven empty most of the time.......

Ok so from what I gather it is lack of maintenance and possibly missing parts and maybe a miss attempt at adjusting them.

GD stock we didnt get much rain here but I guess itll have to do.

The manual for the 2001 was not a lot of help, and neither was the Haynes. BUt I found a complete kit of springs and the hooks at O'Reileys. Everything but the oval shaped springs that go on the bar that crosses over to engage both shoes for parking brake. I scrounged a pair from a box of miscellaneous old parts I have had around for 20 years. DOn't know what they came from (this is my first Dodge) but they fit. One of mine was missing, and one was broken in two places.

Yeah this is my first Dodge too and the newest anything Ive ever owned. Newest before this was a 92 and I still have it the oldest being a 67 GMC. There is things I like about the truck but then there is things I do not like about it like the seat belt design, the computer and other things. Its getting hot now and I do not know why yet. That and its weak compaired to the 92 bowtie 1500 that I have.

Any how I plan to go to Oreillys friday and get a T-Stat and hope that fixes the cooling issue. While im there Ill check on the brake components and see what they run, I know the e brake is good dodge always tightens it for me when I take it in for a check up. That reminds me I need a cabin filter......................................

Cool

Turns out that my truck is indeed RWAL. So Cudos and sorry I doubted you dodge dude94. I have to admit though I hate the RWAL. I like for a truck to lock on the rear not the front. But then the newest Ive ever had was a 92 chevy. Anyhow thanks for the help guys and or gals?!
