Default how to test factory alarm?

Yeah maybe silly question but wondering if some smarty pants knows.

Mine will work hitting panic button.

It will arm at least hearing horn when doing lock on fob.

I don't think it arms itself anymore though. Meaning when leaving unlocked it will auto lock after some time.

How would you purposely set off?

Does alarm arm if you just do power lock button in door?

Never thought of these till a recent incident.

Thx

i think on my moms cars if you lock it with the remote and then try to manually unlock with the key and open the door you usually set of the alarm off. not sure if the dodge trucks are the same or not. i think you usually have to hit the lock button on the remote twice and the car usually honks at you.

I dont have a key fob anymore but if i lock it with the door button it arms itself. When unlocking it with they key i have to turn it 3 or 4 times or the alarm goes off.. id say lock the truck and leave your window down reach in pull the lifter doohicky up and open door. Should go off

Yeah, I tried that thinking it would set off. Nope.

So this means just some portion of the alarm is broke dead and it's been like this for a good number of years.

What do you think I should do to fix or other?

Last night, this is what happened.

I'm sure the alarm did not go off. I did lock with the power button, not fob. So it would have been armed as you say.

Am I seeing a missing rear window? I have not looked at wiring diagram for alarm syste...wondering if mine has it or not.

May be as cheap to install a good aftermakret alarm system.

Yes. Broken rear window.

Found the section in the manual.

ARMING
Passive arming of the VTSS occurs when the vehicle
is exited with the key removed from the ignition
switch, the headlamps are turned off, and the doors
are locked while they are open using the power lock
switch, or locked after they are closed by turning
either front door lock cylinder to the lock position
using the key. The power lock switch will not function
if the key is in the ignition switch or the headlamps
are turned on with the driver side front door
open. The VTSS will not arm if the doors are locked
using the mechanical lock button. Active arming of
the VTSS occurs when the “Lock” button on the
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is
depressed to lock the vehicle. For active arming to
occur, the doors must be closed and the ignition
switch must be in the Off position when the RKE
transmitter “Lock” button is depressed. However,
once the VTSS arming process has been completed,
the ignition switch can be turned to the Accessory
position without triggering the alarm.
Once the VTSS begins passive or active arming,
the security indicator lamp in the overhead console
will flash rapidly for about fifteen seconds. This indicates
that the VTSS arming is in progress. Turning a
key in the ignition switch, opening a door, or unlocking
a door by any means during the fifteen second
arming process will cause the VTSS indicator to stop
flashing and the arming process to abort. Once the
fifteen second arming function is successfully completed,
the indicator will flash at a slower rate, indicating
that the VTSS is armed.
Going to do some diagnostics but will probably have to get into shop with DRBIII tool.

If you can figure out what is wrong with the alarm go ahead and fix it. Not sure on were to tell you to start looking though...

I for one am not to impressed with the factory alarm at all. Once i start my new job i will be upgrading to an aftermarket one. Like gdstock said that might be a good route to go.

If mine had the factory alarm (not sure, it hasn't been the biggest priority for me..) I did not get the remotes, and the price to replace them and the price dealer wants to do set up is crazy stupid. So if I do something, it will be an aftermarket as well.

My dad bought the Yota I have new, and the dealer installed a great aftermarket, but my dad (not so technically trusting) had it removed.....I never bothered to reinstall one. Sincve most of the time, no one pays much attention to an alarm and living in a low crime area, I really don't give it much thought. But I suppose after someone breaks out a window it will be a higher priority.

White, did they get anything of value? And of course, these crimes are almost never solved....
