Default Engine replaced now trans won't downshift up hill

Hi everyone. Recently got a reman engine put in. I was going up a canyon on the highway and had the gas to the floor and the van wouldn't shift down to get the rpms back up. It shifts fine around town. I can feel it bogging down in 4th gear and slowly losing speed but it won't downshift even after a lot of foot English. Any ideas? It shifted totally fine before then new motor was out in. There's a out 700 miles on the new one.

Can't you take it back to whoever installed it and ask them?

I maybe could but I know he will just say he hasn't touched the trans. Also I have a trip end of the week and he's super busy so I'm sure it will be up to me if I get it taken care of in time.

Just checked this and it's connected, didn't seem to be any slack but disconnected, removed clip, took any slack, reclipped the clip.

Are there perhaps some adjustments underneath that it.may need?

Check it down below as well. Make sure the lever it is attached to moves relatively freely.....

Hey all, I took it back to the mechanic. He charged me a few hundred bucks to adjust the kick down which I kind of thought was BS because that's something that should've been adjusted right after getting the new motor. Anyway...more annoying is that didn't fix it. In fact it shift much jerkier now around town.

I drove it up this highway pass and it won't kick down. Instead it bogs way down below the speed limit with my foot going through the floor and I have to manually press the overdrive off button which does get it out of 4th and into 3rd.

Any other ideas? I'm pretty annoyed. Nothing like getting passed by semis up hills.

Follow-up note...chatgpt seems to think strongly it could be the tps. Maybe it's bad or needs adjusting. Could've been misadjusted with the new motor install?

TPS isn't adjustable.

This is still a TV cable problem.
