Default t-stat went bad

For 6 years I have been running a 180* t-stat. On the wat to work the houseing strated leaking, so While at work I replaced it with another 180* t-stat, turns out the old one was almost always in the open position, just sitting in the air it opened up it was onlt 102*.

I replaced is as stated now the truck runs warmer as it should and it feels like it has a fresh breath of power. I hope my mpg stays the same.

Just the opposite really. The PCM sees the engine not warming up to temp, so, it adds a bit more gas to try and warm it up.

I am running 180 stat with tune, and temp runs around 171 most of the time. nNo adverse effects noticed....just seems strange.

A stat opening at 102 does seem to be problematic, and would allow truck to run cool. Were you running a tune for the 180?

I was talking about his truck running with the stat open as opposed to running at 180*. Shouldn't the mileage increase running at 180* vs way less than that?

Well yes, compared to running open. But a 180 compared to a stock 195, no.

I am not running a tune for 180* its all stock tune wise.

I know what the theory is and what folks say but my mpg did go up a few with the 180* when it was new At this time I think I did the plenum too. There was a lot of talk saying the 180* t-stat would gibe better mpg then too. I think I will leave it alone.
