Default OEM Driveshaft U-JOINT

anyone know if the oem u-joint inside the yoke on the rear driveshaft, will fit in the pinion yoke on a dana 70? i have looked around and it says the same u-joint will fit in the 60 and 70, so basically does anyone know if the u-joint on the front driveshaft is the same as the rear? when i looked up part numbers from front to rear they matched.

i just wanna make sure that my rear driveshaft u-joint will fit the ears on the pinion yoke on the rear dana 70.im not at my house or i would just measure it.

so in short. im tryin to use my oem driveshaft and connect it to a dana 70 rear. i need to know if my u joint on there right now will work or not. and when i take the flange part off, will my driveshaft still reach?
or does anyone know if i can swap the pinion flange from my 9.25 onto the dana 70 ?

You have a 9.25 rear in there stock. It uses smaller joints. Were you able to score the driveshafts with the axles??

no i wasnt able to get the driveshaft, hence why im tryin to figure out to get mine to adapt to it, cuz it has the strap and bolt kind of yoke on it. ill either get the bigger weld on flange for the driveshaft and get the right u joint or see what else i can come up with. any ideas would be great, i really would like to have this dana 70 rear, since the gears match the dana 60 front.

do u know what u-joint the dana 70 need on the drive shaft to connect to the pinion yoke? i can get the weld on yoke for the shaft, but then i think my shaft will be to short...

Hybrid U-joint. Has two different size rollers? on it. One size for the driveshaft, another size for the yoke. You will have to take the yoke into the parts store with you, to get the right one..... might be some charts available online to look up sizes as well.

Trying to make a stock driveshaft fit to a dana 70 right?

The best way is cutting the shaft about 2" (because pinion on the 70 is a bit longer than 9.25) and welding on a 1410 yoke (and using regular 1410 joints).

I'm pretty sure your stock driveshaft has a 7290 u joint at the axle and looking around, there's no 7290 to 1410 adapter u joint.

exactly! what i needed to know. so why do i have to cut my driveshaft 2" shorter? just curious, seems like when i take the flange thats on there now im losing 2-3" from that, so can i not just cut off the weld on flange thats on there right now and weld the knew one on? i guess thats what ill do, and ill just measure it and play with it.

is the 1410 u-joint 4 1/4" from side to side? cuz thats the distance between the ears on the pinion yoke. and its about 1 1/4" for the cup size of the u joint.

oh and im not at the house with the truck right now, is the OEM driveshaft 3"? or 3.5"?

Maybe your setup with the driveshafts will be different from what I've seen others do since you're at a 3" suspension, while other people doing this swap are usually at 7+ inches--> those are the people who have cut about 2" off (because of the pinion of d70 being longer than that of the 9.25)...But maybe you don't because of the smaller lift? Your best bet would be to try and fit the shaft under the truck and see what you need to do; lengthen, shorten, or just leave it.

From another site:
"the 1410 u joint which measures 4.187" outside cap to outside cap and has a 1.188" cap size"

Not sure about the stock ds size, maybe someone else knows.
