Default Leaf Spring Bushing

ok so i got the old ones out with a torch, but when i went to install the new ones, i couldnt get them in, there is like a outer sleave still inside the leaf spring from where i took the old one out, i guess its like it encased the old one. well i cant get the new ones in with it there. i think i could if it was out though. so do i try to get it out or what? they are new bushings from energy suspension.

Yes you have to knock them out. I had a helluva time getting mine out. So much so that after i got the one side done i said fk the other side and left it alone. Soak it reAlly well with some pb blaster and start wailing with a hammer and socket, the bigger the hammer the better. I found that my 5 lb sledge was barely enough. Good luck!!!

could you cut it out with an air chisel?

if you think so, and don't have one, take it to a tire shop and let them chisel on it for a few minutes.

Did your new bushings come with a sleeve as well? Cause you will need to reuse it if not.

Use a hacksaw to remove the old sleeve.

Take the blade off the hacksaw and run it through the hole, then reinstall the blade. Cut through the sleeve only!. After you get it cut through, just take a chisel and knock the outer edges together.

Makes things a lot easier.

The urethane bushings may not need to outer sleeve, they are a bit stiffer.

Careful with the sawzall.... cut the sleeve, not the spring. In this case, the hand saw really is a better plan.

All you really need to do is put a deep groove in the sleeve, doesn't even have to go all the way thru, then, just start along that edge, and peel the sleeve out. Once you have it released enough, it will come right out. Clean the hole out VERY well before installing your new bushings.
