fuel pump brands
#21
I just changed a fuel pump on a customers '99 Ram 3500 Diesel 5.9L....It was a carter pump, and it was seriously *effed* up. I mean it looked as if someone may have already torn the thing apart before I got to it. I am not sure how it happened, nor am I saying that carter pumps are bad, but just be advised!

Thanks gdstock. You know, when it came to the process of how to replace the pump, I always thought "I'll drop the tank and that's that". I was always against lifting the bed in order to do it. Well, My tank was full when my pump died. That's 26 gallons of fuel at roughly 8 pounds per gallon. Over 200 pounds of fuel. No way I'm dropping the tank. I put a bunch of witness marks on my bed at various parts and all in all, it took me about 3 hours. a lot easier with the bed off...that's for sure.
On a side note, where do you get those filler neck hoses? One is 3/4 inches diameter and the other is 1 3/4 inches diameter.
