Newbie Dogde Owner
I hear so many different precautionary messures that should be done to dodge trucks. I am buying a 99 1500 with 145000 mi. What are some of the first things I should do to it, to avoid problems. Shortly after getting it im raising it 5in and putting 35s on it.
Read the plenum stickie first. And plan on gears before you put 35's on it. You should probably plan on doing an axle swap to d60's. 35's will eat a d44 for lunch. As well as the tranny, since you have 3:55 gears.

Double Roller timing chain
I dont know it all but some others will chime in.
Also fill in your signature with your truck info so you dont have to type it and to help us all out when giving you help
^^^ this guy, always so serious. Lol
Biggest thing is check the plenum, service transmission, and save money for gas.

Buy stock in an oil company.
Gotta agree on the "gears before tires" thing. 35's will put a heavy strain on your trans with the stock gears, and the trannies were weak to begin with.... with 145K on the clock, I wouldn't bet it would last more than 10K like that.... if that. (depending on driving style)

I say start with a simple tune up... Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, distributor button, oil change w/ Lucas oil stabilizer, seafoam, air filter, fuel filter... Looks like a lot, but depending on the oil you go for, you're only talking 100 bucks. Start with the preventative stuff, then go gearhead crazy.
I get going to the dana 60s but the double roller timing chain. Why would that be important to switch?
