Default 01 Ram 1500 5.7l threw 0320 & 1391 codes

Replaced my fuel pump assembly about three weeks ago - all of a sudden having trouble starting the vehicle. Had been fine - starting all well & running good since repair. Four days ago truck took forever to start - lots of cranking, fiddling with gas pedal, finally it gets going - just a titch of dirty smoke from exhaust when it finally starts. This, after sitting overnight in driveway. After I start it in the morning have no trouble starting during the day - then park at home for the night, and same thing happens in the morning - going on four days now.

So, Check engine light came on - threw the following codes - looked them up here and now don't know exactly know what they mean - could someone help?

0320 - No crank Ref signal at PCM
1391 - Intem loss of CMP or CKP

Anyone tell me what these codes mean?

They are telling you that the crank sensor is going belly up, or, there is a wiring problem there somewhere. Check the wires first. (its free....) Crank sensor is on the passenger side of the block, behind the cylinder head. Bolts to the flange part of the block near the trans. It's a drag to get to..... follow the wires, make sure they aren't chafed, crimped, or some other badthingthathappenstowires. If the wiring looks ok, replace the sensor. Get a good quality brand, (dealer?) some of the cheaper fellers don't always work as good as they should.

Might check for spark when you are getting the no-start issue as well. That would be a great indicator of a bad sensor.

Thanks - sounds reasonable. Apparently it's almost a two-person job to replace the sensor due to it's location - a guy underneath directing the guy working alongside the engine from the topside.

I'm on it. The I'll get off it. As we all say from time to time, wtf.

Supposedly, if you take out the passenger fender liner, it makes the job easier. I have no experience with that though....

So I replaced the Crank Sensor - what a gigantic PIA, and it started right up no trouble last night upon repair completion. Truck sat overnight - maybe 9 hours - and wouldn't start this morning. Threw a 0320 code, but the check engine light does not stay on. So, any suggestions on my next step here? I have the Code Definition - 0320 No Crank Ref Signal at PCM. Now what needs to be replaced - and please don't tell me it's the second most difficult to access for r&r, because I'm still getting over the trauma I suffered in the Crank Sensor replacement(ok that's supposed to be funny, but I'm about to beat that truck with a baseball bat right now!)

In any case, after I kicked the cat and screamed into a towel, I hitched a ride to work with my wife.

Check the connections for the crank sensor.
