If you find a blown plenum gasket, you may also have a clogged cat as the oil is sent through the engine and absorbed by the mesh in the cat.

This can cause a serious issue with power ect.

To check the cat, pull the forward (upstream) O2, start the engine and see if the engine seems more powerful. That little bit goes a long way if the cat is clogged...
Where is the upstream o2? And will A regular wrench work? If so, what size? If not, what tool would I need?

Should I try the iac again? I did NOT reset pcm when I tried to see if that was the problem

If replacing the plenum plan on spending a day or 2 not all that hard tho it depends on your skill level. Seems like tou take more time cleaning. You want all thoes parts put back together squeaky clean.

Mine took four days..... That was mostly scheduling issues, and an empty oxygen tank though...

Book says around 6 hours. But, that is for an experienced mechanic. Give yourself the weekend to take care of it.

1) Upstream 02 is the one in the cat or just before the cat on the engine side.

2) Yes, if you have it, replace it and unplug the battery for 15 minutes.

3) The PCM will store codes and driving conditions until you force the reset.

Default Coil

Check the coil - my '95 was sluggish and idling a little rough. The coil change-out fixed my problem.

Could it really be something as simple as that? And what was your truck idling at? Also, could that cause poor fuel economy?

Maybe finish doing basic tune up. Replace dist cap (brass terminals) and rotor. Plug wires and route them per TSB. Go for new coil while your at it. First things first. Then see where your at.
