If you can find a parts donor of similar year, so that the PCM, wiring harnesses, etc, will be a direct swap, makes life a lot easier. Trying to purchase the parts individually would cost more than finding one that RUNS that already has the manual.... If you can find a dead one, they are cheap, and makes the swap worth while. (blown motor, body damage, etc.)

I can't see the cranks being any different from engine to engine. Sure, it's another machining step, but, uniformity can decrease production costs too.

Alright, looks like the crank will be fine then, I ha my doubts about them being different but I had to make sure. I know people have done the swap without ever mentioning a problem with it.

I completely plan on finding a truck with a blown motor, rolled over, body damage, etc. I just don't know where to really start looking for it

What about the transfer case?

If you get the whole truck, you get the t-case too. There ARE some differences between manual and autos there, I think the inputs on the manual trans t-case has a longer input dohickey.

Thanks for the write up, ittll help a lot. I don't have time to thoroughly read it now but I'll definetly save it.

If anybody sees a truck that would work for my swap anywhere close to southwest Virginia let me know, I would love you forever
