Default I want a 5-spd

Alright here's the situation, I have a 01 5.9 4x4 1500 with the auto tranny. It shifts great right now but it has 204,000 thousand miles on it and I'm expecting it to crap out on me any day now. I also hate the slushbox.

Basically I wanna swap in a 5-spd. My only concern after doing some initial research is the pilot bearing, I've read several things ranging from its not drilled, to a plastic insert, or a direct bolt up, I have no idea. Oh and the transfer case issue since I have a 4x4, I'm assuming you just swapping the transfer case out but I really have no idea

And where do I start looking for a donor truck? Should I be happy with a NV3500 or should I really try to find a NV4500?

It can be done but its a decent amount of work that can turn into a real headache. Im young myself but if i want a manual ill just go buy another mustang. I wouldnt go through the hassle of trying to put one in my truck. Thats just my opinion though.

I don't like mustangs. I know it could potentially be a headache but I don't really care. I understand it's impractical but it's what I wanna do. I respect your opinion but I don't feel the same way.

I think i remember seeing a thread here somewhere that someone did the swap. Do some searching and you should be able to find it

swap is easy. just need the obvious items all standards need, and throw it in, direct swap. just need to get your pcm reflashed for a manual transmission.

gonna be the next "big" thing i do to my truck when my transmission falls out(if it ever does).

yeah i remember the thread as well. He was able to get a donor truck and he swapped everything over with ease if i remember correctly. the hardest thing i think was having the PCM reprogrammed.
