Yea you can change the transmission fluid also but if it hasnt been flushed on a regular maintenance schedule its not a good idea to start doing now. Everything else your good to go on

given a choice of running new fluid vs 13 year old 150,000 mile worn out fluid... i think new fluid is a better choice.

BUT BUT BUT - what you must understand, is that an unmaintained transmission (or anything else) is full of sludge. And new fluid dissolves sludge. And dissolved sludge clogs filters and valves and coolers and check valves. And clogged filters will kill a transmission in under a month.

so - if, and only if, you are willing to change the transmission fluid 2 or 3 times, about 1-2-3 weeks apart, should you change it. changing it twice is fine. changing it once is rolling the dice.

this goes for a mechanics flush as well. a drain/refill changes half the fluid and puts sludge in motion. a mechanics full flush is nothing more than changing all the fluid, and still putting the sludge in motion, and still rolling the dice.

 

Some of the flushes are back-flush... which is way bad. Knocks all that crap loose, traps it above the filter, and then when you start the truck, and start driving, all the crap circulates BACK thru the trans...... Ooops.
