Default alternative 4x4 vacum replacement system the good and the bad????

o.k. so I have the 4 wheel drive issue about the truck has sat for 5 years and the only problem I have now is the 4x4. from what I have read on here the vacum system is prone to failure. I had another member on here tell me that this was a better way to go with it so i was wantting to know the good and the bad about this manual system.

I don't see a down side. I have a kit here, but haven't had the time to install it as of yet. I will be doing it soon. Cold weather will be here soon and I don't want to have to install it in the cold

Down side: You have to manually lock in the front axle.......

Up Side: You can manually lock in the front axle.... gives the ability for using 2 Lo. Eliminates the failure prone, and sometimes slow to engage, vacuum system.

When you put the expensive stick in some 4 wheel range, you want it RIGHT NOW, not in a few minutes, when the cad decides to engage...... the manual system is head and shoulders better than the vacuum system. It's a good upgrade if you off road at all.

I installed the posi lok system a few months ago and the only downside I see is figuring out before you need it that you need it. It only took me one time of figuring it out the "hard way" (had to get pulled out) before I started the better safe than sorry approach. Now if I leave the hard top, i lock it in!

do it.
i have the posilok version and have nothing but good things to say about it.
its very satisfying to pull on the cable and feel it lock in (or unlock out) and know that it happened.

i use 2wd low a lot for crawling around slow at lower rpm's.

o.k. I thank you all for the help....I just have one more question. I have read everything and post about this that was listed in your replies. so my question is how do i tell what kit to get with posi lock the 400 or 450 i have an 01 ram. or should i get one of the other cheaper kits. I am building a custom cup holder to fit in the place of the one that breaks all the time now out of wood and i will be putting the controls for my winch and 4x4 on there. so i am trying to get all this ordered before i cut wood for this in the next couple of days LOL

4x4 Posi-Lok Dodge and you need the 400 for your truck. As the old saying goes you get what you pay for in this world, but at the end of the day it's your call and your dime.

thanks I have learned my lesson with cutting corners ordering other brands and I do like the price of the other but I also noticed that posilock will help you through the whole process i talk to them today and was told that if i ran into any problems they would walk me through the guide if i didn't understand anything. I like the customer service they have. For sure that is one thing we do not have these days with companies name brand or not LOL....

its your money, but if you go with the posilok, don't pay more than $164, no tax, no shipping.

when you remove the cad, note the direction of the curve of the fork. i think it curves towards drivers side. you'll need some big stout zip ties to contain the big-*** cable.
