transmission
I have a 2000 ram 1500 5.9 l v8 and every once in awhile the transmission seems not to want to shift into the next gear it will stay at 3,000 rpms but when I turn it off and drive it home 9 hours later after work it shifts fine. any ideas on what the problem is?

I found great information on this site regarding my problems w/my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport and wanted to add my information in hopes somebody else with the issue is hopefully able to resolve it.
I purchased the truck one year ago as a weekend user for trips to the lumber yard, garden centers, garbage transfer station and as a plow vehicle in the winter. It has approximately 102000 miles. Within a few months the truck engine warning light came on and would go off and then eventually stayed on full-time. What I would experience is limited take off power from a stationary position. I guess what was hapening was the truck was taking off in 2nd or even 3rd versus 1st. This didn't happen all the time but built up to happening full-time. Then I experienced issues with the truck not wanting to shift up into 2nd or 3rd while traveling on the roadway. I researched the internet (this forum) and decided to attempt a replacement of the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. I purchased the parts on line due to the lack of confidence in both the local parts stores and dealerships. I purchased my parts from: Electrical Advantage, INC. (Borg Pressure Solenoid Kit 00 Up; Part#s: B12432A/D12415C; $106.95). Parts received approximately two days later. I did buy locally a new filter that came with a gasket (didn't think they could screw this up).
There is a pretty good write-up on the forum and I didn't experience any issues during my transfer. Dropped the pan, took out a few more screws to drop the sensor/solenoid cover, popped them out and replaced w/new. I took out the two screws holding the filter and replaced it. Put the pan back on taking care not to overtighten fastening bolts. Poured in 4 quarts of fluid and took it for a test drive. Engine light off and no more problems with sluggish take off and with shifting up while driving. The whole process didn't even take 2 hours and that was taking my time. And after dropping my pan, I didn't seen any signs of other issues that may be going on.
Thanks to all the folks who took the time to write up their experiences. It is so helpful to us all.

+1. Drop the pan and peek inside. be ccareful to tighten the pan bolts to 13 ft pounds. Do not tighten the snot out of it or it will start leaking on you, and/or you may strip the threads out of tranny. Its aluminum!

One more handy tip - go to FAQ/DIY section and download service manual for your truck. The 2001 will work...no real changes. The trans section is very good.
Keep us posted!
