What is the Standard Idle Speed?
Ok its probably a really simple question and answer, but im going to ask it anyways.
My 97 dodge ram 5.2L idles around 500 RPM when it is warmed up. What i want to know is what is the correct idle speed for these trucks?
I believe that the truck is idling rather low, but im not sure and i would just like to get everyones two cents.

Does idle up if you turn on air and not lug down? If so, you should be good. 500 is a little below where most of them seem to be. If there is a concern, disconnect battery cable, remove IAC and clean it and the port and try again. See if that increases a little.
Sounds like your problem is a vacuum leak.
600RPM. I wouldn't trust the factory tach, if I trusted mine I'd believe the idle varies from 400-1200.

This section of the forum is for 2nd gen gas trucks... Not 4th gen diesels.
Your post is kinda hard to follow, but if I'm reading it right I'd guess that it's normal. The truck should go into a 'high idle' below a certain temperature to aid in cold weather engine warm up.
Ask your question in the diesel section or on cumminsforum.
Ps, it's a 6.7l engine not 6.9
