Default Dakota Vs Ram motor

I'm currently looking for a 5.9 gas motor for my truck. Its a Ram.
Guy has a motor for sale out of his Dakota.
Are the 5.9 motors the same between Ram and Dakota?

Ram, Dakota, Durango, and Jeep 5.9's are all interchangeable... No major differences. Pre 1996 will have EGR, so if you get a newer engine you will want to use your current intake manifold.

just make sure you get the ECM and everything with it and you shouldn't have a problem.

Yeah, if I get it it would be everything. ECM, wiring, sensors and all.
Thanks guys.
Looks like I'm going from OBDI to OBDII.
This is going to be lots of fun

No! Why would you need the PCM?

Use EVERYTHING from your old engine. Intake manifold, flex plate, sensors, wiring harness, and PCM.

I want ability to tune the motor.
I'll be doing cam, intake, minor head job, 1.65 or 1.7 rockers.
I think I should go with OBDII in order to make this thing tunable.
I know its a difficult and time consuming, but that's OK.
Motor will be put together while I'm still running tired 318.

Be prepared to get the entire dash, dash wiring harness, and BCM from a donor OBD II truck.

This is going to be a long project.
I just hope my 318 will make it, before I get a chance to get all my "ducks in a row"

There's only two types of people who are excited about rewiring the engine and dash harnesses: professionals who have done a bunch of them and know WTF they're doing and do-it-yourselfers who have no idea of the living hell they are about to engage in. Professionals get the job done and charge a mountain of cash. DIYer's create zombies that will never run right. Good luck.

I'm an electrical engineer and build automated machinery (cool industrial robots) for living.
I'm always very immaculate if it comes to wiring. I have to have everything labeled and/or professionally terminated. As long as I keep it this way it should be much issue.
I always think that if someone did it before me I should be able to do it without much issues.
