You can get more travel out of a Solid Axle suspension than you can IFS. having all those extra joints and such just complicates matters. Not to mention the angles you will be asking them to run at.
I think dodge went to IFS on the half ton trucks in 2002?? If you could find one that was wrecked, there would be a parts donor in any event....
If you are considering doing a 'race-truck' though.... starting with a big, heavy, full sized truck is going to leave you at the back of the pack anyway. The light duty IFS from the newer half ton trucks won't tolerate that kind of behavior very long, especially with larger tires.... you will pretty much break stuff every time you take it out. Not much fun.

if you want ifs just buy a chevy....... all their trucks from a 1500 up to a 3500 have ifs...... go that route....
thats the biggest reason hy i hate chevy... well thats and everybody i know wants one, and talks **** about dodge, but then ask you for help when their rig breaks down.
but seriously, 2002-present dodge 1500's have ifs, and 2009/2010-present dodge 1500's have coil sprung rear suspension.

There is a shop here that has told me they can beef up the front end if i can dind ifs. The guy races a chev 1500 with ifs that is also his dd. This is a project i am wanting to do over some time. First is to rebuild/ turbo the 360. Then some plans for long travel rear, and then the ifs if i can find it. I have two mig welders, a tig, plasma cutter and so on. Im not looking for massive travel from the front, just enough so the front tires can do their own thing going down a jacked up road. Just likethe the trucks used into corra or thethe baja races.Thank you for the info on the ifs.

Don't forget to budget for the trans as well.
They are notoriously weak on these trucks.
The IFS swap, and beefing up is not going to be an inexpensive endeavor..... for the amount of money you would spend, you could probably do a really nice solid axle/coilover setup, that would give you more travel, and a better ride.....

Ok well then what wouod be a better set up as far as stability in a off road race situation? I was told ifs is better for high speed control going down a uneven dirt road. I dont plan on going off any 15to ft jumps but i need something that can handle some air in a.situation where i do leave the ground. As for the tranny. There is a tranny shop i was going.to have beef up the stock tranny, unless there is a bullet proof type tranny i can get. ? And where would you suggest i go for the type of suspension ( coil over or whatever ) that i need?
