Default Gas Gauge jumps around a lot!.

My gas gauge on my 1997 Ram seems to bounce around a lot, depending on take off or corners & ect...Takes a bit to level out & get an average of how much gas is left in the tank. Just wondering how to fix this or if its normal.

Above about a 1/4 tank, mine is pretty stable. It will vary some at stops and starts... but, that just the nature of the beast. The tank is pretty long, and the float sits in the forward part of it. The gas IS going to shift when you change speed, supposedly, the gauge is 'electronically damped'....... apparently, not very successfully.

My gauge only moves to the left. Maybe you have a sticky sending unit. Try some Techron plus . I also know there is a thread and some info around here some where I cant find right now, about using some chemical (maybe its the Techron) to clean the sender in the tank.

It seems to level out decent once you're going, but if I give it any juice off the line it will move a needle width or two either way and you can watch it move lol. The first time I noticed this I was like "wtf its bad enough I know burning out takes a lot of gas, let alone having to watch the gauge showing its taking that much gas!" haha.

Speaking of gas consumption, my truck actually has been very decent on gas, been doing about 50 miles through city driving & late night Mc Donalds runs for the last 3 days on barely 1/8th tank of gas! (you guys are probably thinking, that gas gauge must really be fkd!) and I even did a 10 ft long brake stand at the drive thru for one of the hot 24 hour cashier girls there!.

I was hoping you had the same problem I do. My gauge seems jumps around, but it goes from the actual level to E back and forth, especially on half a tank and while idling. Anyone seen that before?
