The Time Has Come - 408 Cubic Inches.
As the title reads, I am a week or two away from the funding I need to to begin. This is prep time. This is list time. This is planning time. I want your input and help.
To start, I have a donor 360, complete, on an engine stand, ready for tear down. I want to break this down into three stages for simplicity, as I typically do when building an engine. However, this will be my first dodge 408.
Stage 1 - Machine Shop - I will be dropping the block and heads off at the local machine shop. The block will be checked and machine prepped with the sole purpose of being a stroker. Whatever clearances are typical, they'll be tasked with them. It'll get tested, bored, freeze plugs, cam bearings, and possible decked. The heads will be checked, and rebuilt.
Stage 2 - New parts - This is where I'll need some help. What are some good places to look for a combination of good price and quality for the stroker specific rotating assembly parts that I will need to order? Crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearings...link me to the deals you found when building your last engine.
Stage 3 - Assembly. This is the fun part for me. Removing and installing an engine is easy. Building is where I get my rocks off. I'll take pics and post them and walk you through issues or successes with updates as I proceed.
Hemifever, you reading? You'll be called on for the tune. We'll go over the details a little closer to the final stages of the project.
Bad News - This 408 isn't for my truck. It's for a great friend's 1997 Ram. He's sick of dealing with his high mileage 360 and I suggested the 408. He's funding it and I'm building it and installing it.
Good News - I'm building a 408. Love it.

My machine shop took care of ordering the rotating assy. They checked prices before ordering but we ended up using a scat crank eagle rods and Icon pistons
Most likely those stock heads will be junk. They all crack and do not use stock replacement heads, they will do the same thing. I got a set of heads from Hughes for mine.

Ditch the heads completely. Stock heads are awful. Get some Clearwater/Odessa heads. Last time I checked it was only 700 for a pair of stockers with much better build quality, they're brand new castings and I have yet to hear a bad thing about them. You could also upgrade to bigger valves for some more dough.
Working with rape victims, women who have been beaten, and children that have been abused in the worst ways imaginable is hard work...and it takes it's toll after about 6 1/2 years. Going to take some time off, work on projects parked in back yard, and recover. Working on these is good therapy for me.
Anyone need some work done...come on down!
