I am going to look at motor tonight. The guy said it came from a 01 Durango rt and it has 200k on it. He also said I can hear it run. Is there anything specific I should listen for?

Check for oil in intake manifold. But i woukd assume that the plenum gasket needs to be changed, may be a good bargaining point. Would be great if he would let you do a compression test as well.

Will the PCM form the donor Dakota work? If so, grab it also!

I went to go look at the motor but when I got there the guy didn't have the key to the shop where it was. So Im going back tomorrow to look at it. It is a Durango rt instead of a Dakota rt(not sure if that makes a difference). With 200k what would that motor be worth? He is asking 500 but I feel that's high. Will the PCM from the durango work in my truck? It's a 2001 and my truck is a 96?

I know that I have a lot of questions but y'all seem to really know what y'all are talking about?

The engine will work, but the PCM will not. You will need PCM from 96 or 97 model years, newer or older won't work. You can just have your current PCM reflashed though... get a tuner from Hemifever, he can set ya right up.

200K on the motor? Offer him 200 bucks for it, as that is about all that it is worth. It's a rebuildable core. I would not install it as is....... mainly because with that high of mileage, it is going to have to be rebuilt soon anyway..... You could do a compression test on it, and see what the numbers look like, would give you an indication of how much life is left in it....
