Default 318 to a 360 swap

Hi guys, new to this forum, but I'm wondering on the 318-360 swap. Before I get started the reason for swapping is because I wanna get a 6 in ,or so, lift for my truck down the road and would like some power behind the wheels(thus the swap). Is it worth the headache to swap out the 318(mine's a 2001) for a 360? Any help would be very appreciated! (OH and any comments on a manual trans. swap down the road also?)

Just re gear. I don't know the specific ratio but If you re-gear your rear axle then the 318 will have plenty of torque for the job.

Some have said the 318 responds to mods better than the 360. 318 has a throatier cam then the 360, which makes up for it with more displacement.

I'm with Ham Bone. Re-gear and do a tuneup if needed, make sure the plenum isn't blown...

The 318 responds better to bolt ons. As far as stock goes.

As far as a manual swap, it is often discussed but rarely done. If you could swap in the NV4500 it is more than worth the work. The hardest part of it all is finding the parts. I myself would love to do the swap but its nearly impossible to find a perfect donor truck and I dont have the money to outright buy the parts new.

You might want to jump into this thread. If he's not already offloaded the kit you'll be way the heck ahead of the game.

Yeah spring time I'd like to fix my plenum problem, tho I haven't had any symptoms yet...What mods would you guys recommend and gear ratios if I choose this route? I already have a K&N CAI and after market exhaust.

Depends on what size tires you are running or plan to run in the immediate future. I'd say at least 4.10s

Sorry about that, I'd like to run 34's or 35's.

I would thnk fixing the plenum would be better n ow than later...unless clogging cat, cracking head, and other issues aren't a problem. But it would make gears seem pretty useless.....

Only thing I've had wrong was a clogged and partially melted cat I had taken off, tho that was mostly due to really bad spark plugs. Otherwise nothing else seems to have come up.
