i'd pull the speed sensor out and look at it. it might have been replaced in the past, and broken off in the process. i stuck a picture above.

just a by the way. your 01 speedometer is determined by ring gear sensor, rear abs/speed sensor, pcm programming for "pinion factor", and tire size. gear ratio is not used in later years (98-01ish).

I concur, doesn't look like any of the clips or clutch remnants found in the bottom of my LSD diff couple months back.

The speed sensor is still there, but I'll look it over to make sure it looks fine. Just say the sensor is broken, can I take the one off the axle on my truck now and put on it?

The new axle is off of a 98

rockauto says the rear diff abs sensor for 98-05 are all the same.
