Default 2001 3/4 ton 4x4 wheel fitment

I just picked up a 2001 2500 quad cab 4x4 (cummins ). It's got the stock 16" wheels on it and worn tires. I've already got a mint set of 285/70R17's that I will install (from another previous vehicle), so I just need to get new wheels--cheaper than new tires anyway! I'd be looking for something that has a reasonably stock fitment but am not sure what the offset and backspacing I should be looking for on a 17x9 wheel. There are several options available, but using something like tirerack.com doesn't help because they have "special notes" for some wheels say "aggressive fit" or "aggressive fit, requires lift kit" even though these wheels come up as an OEM replacement.

Sorry, I did a search on wheel fitment, but everything I found was for 1/2 tons and didn't want to assume 3/4 ton were the same.

Stock 16" wheels are 5 inch backspacing, on a 7 inch (or 7.5 inch?) wide rim. If you stuck with the same backspacing, the tires would stick out the fender a bit... if you went with less, they would tuck in nicely, but, you would more than likely get some rubbing on the control arms on tight turns. Less backspacing would avoid the control arms, but, you may have to do some modifications to the inner fender well to keep from rubbing on that... also may have issues with the front bumper, but, with 285/70's, may not be so much of an issue..... if there is a tire shop nearby, see if they would 'test fit' some tires and wheels for you....

Thanks--per recommendation from the wheel supplier, I went with a 17x9 with 5.5" backspacing and +12mm offset for my 285/70R17's. The tires are Goodyear Duratrac's and the wheels will be black Ballastic Jesters.

You are probably going to get a bit of rub on the the control arms at full steering lock...

Those are going to look great. Be sure and post a pic of them mounted up.

Thanks--I will check for that. I'm not sure of all the other choices for offset/backspacing, other than a 0 offset and a negative 12 offset (as opposed to the +12 I am supposed to be getting. Or, should I be asking them to send me something else? I don't think they've shipped yet.

Thanks--I'm hoping it will make up for the annoying electrical ground/short issue I'm currently trying to figure out with the #12 I.O.D. fuse!

Offset isn't as critical here as backspacing. The larger the backspacing, the closer the tires are to the control arms when the wheels are straight...... as you turn, they get closer. Just pay attention to what you are doing, and it shouldn't be an issue. Could always get someone with a welder to build up the steering stops (are they adjustable on the D60? I don't think so.....) so you just don't have to worry about it.

Odd--about the only 17x9 wheel I can find on tirerack (not where I bought the wheels) that does NOT have a "special note" regarding aggressive fit requiring a lift kit is a set of 17x9 that have 5.70" backspacing. I would think 5.7" would be yet another 0.2" closer yet. Everything else I'm browsing through (on tirerack) shows the "special note" across the board including 4.5", 5", and 5.5" backspacing as all requiring a lift per special note. I will check to see if the bumpstops are adjustable, but I'm guessing they are not. I could get creative though, or perhaps use a wheel spacer.
