Hi all,

My rear main has been leaking for quite awhile, but it's getting to the point where I might just have to do something about it. I've read the PS article and the threads here. Agreed the job is straightforward, so I am ready to tackle it. However, I can't seem to find any information regarding dropping the oil pan when equipped with a transmission cooler. My cooler lines run right under the pan lip (passenger side)...SO...do I need to pull the lines...or can anyone confirm the pan can be wiggled out without removing the lines?

I didn't have to do anything with the trans lines...... are you sure yours are in the stock location??

 

My apologies. They actually run on the driver's side, about 2" below the pan lip. Still looks like it would be a squeeze to get the pan out.

 

I just dropped my pan straight down, and back. Came out easy.

 

Well shoot. I'll have to study things a little more before I proceed then. Thanks for the input.

 

You may have to un-clip them and move them a little but it is no big deal.

 

my pan just slipped right out.
getting it back in with gasket in place is a bit awkward and having a helper is nice.

 

I read somewhere recently that dental floss works great for that. Just tie the gasket in place through the bolt holes, and then cut it when you have most of the bolts in place. I haven't had a need to try it yet, but I can see where it would work.

 

The bracket holding the tranny lines can just be bent and pushed out of the way a little. And fishing line also works great to hold the gasket in place. Also, jack the front of the truck up by the frame rail under the radiator. This way the axle sags and gives you more clearance.

 

I didn't even jack mine up.
