let it idle for about an hour and see if it'll dry out and fix itself.

well 2 hrs later it runs fine now but occasionally i get a check gauges light....my volt gauge goes to zero for about 20sec then come back up???

Check the wiring just behind the alt, there's the connector with two little nuts. Make sure that's secure and free of mud/corrosion.
