I was going up a hill yesterday and going fine when all of a sudden lost all power. went from 60 mph to 30 mph. The exhaust sound got quite as well. Changed out plugs and chopped off muffler and no difference. Any suggestions? Thanks

 

Pull the pre-cat o2 and see if it runs better. If so, the cat is clogged. Also check the plenum. Theres a thread at the top of the 2ng gen page with all the info. Its the "end all be all plenum" one.

 

Could be plugged cat. May work fine at low loads (eg around town under 30 mph) and lose power under load, highway speeds, or when hot. Underhood temps higher than normal after driving a short while is a common symptom.

 

Well it is the cat. Does any one have a cheap way to replace or get around replacing it?

 

Yea gut it. Throw a non fouler on there and call it a day. Cost 5 bucks and an hour or so of your time

 

Thats how to fix the clogged cat problem. We all know the reason and what needs to be fixed that caused the clogged cat to begin with.

 

Yep. But ge is looking for a "cheap" way to fix the cat im sure the plenum is way out of the question

 

that's just a band-aid, without the plenum fix he's gonna go through oil, bad mpg, #8 plugs etc.more $$ anyways..

 

yeah a cheap way since you already cut the muffler off, cut the cat off and it won't cost a thing
