Well in northern michigan, it jumped today from $2.79, to $3.40 at the most. We have lots of gas stations in my town, and they're all ranging from $3.19 to $3.40.

I don't own a gas station, and I understand they have to "protect" they're share of gas. But what I don;t under stand is this:
Lets say the station gets a tanker of gas a week, and it comes to lets say 2.70 a gallon. How come it jumpes 50 cents a gallon even though its still the gas they paid 2.50 for?

And all those unfortunate oil rigs on the Gulf. The oil they pump goes from they're rig, to a refinery, then to our gas station. Well, I'm not pro but I'm pretty sure that process takes a few days.... So why is it that a few hours after something happens the prices suddenly jump?

Here in Lexington, KY it is about $3.00 every where. Saw on the news that in Atlanta pricees were about $6.00 a gallon for premium. To me that is just a bit scary! Not only because our trucks are not the easiest things on gas but the effect this will have on everything. Our entire nation hinges on fuel. Now the price of eveything will have to go up, but our wages will stay the same. I don't know about anyone else but it makes me little uneasy. I just hope that our oil tycoon of a president can come up with a solution otherwise it's going to get ugly.
Here is another thing. Due to the refineries closing the gas prices jumped over night. What I don't understand is why. I know the whole supply and demand thing. But does raising the price cause the other refineries to produce more at a faster pace? Let's say that a budwiser plant burned down. Does that mean that budwiser would have to raise the price of beer in order to keep selling it? I am sure there is a logical explanation for all of this if someone would care to explain. Untill then, I guess we all will just have to grin and bear it. [:@]

I like the beer analogy [sm=partyparty.gif]

But it's all about futures trading, oil futures that is. I don't think they have beer futures, but if they did, the price of beer would go up.

As of 9-1 gas is $3 in Minneapolis

When i started the thread the price here in canada (Im on a trip out of germany by the way) was 1.06 a liter. When I woke up at 430am the price was 1.32 a liter. THERE WAS NO TANKER between 10pm and 430am. There was just a little guy who went out with a few new numbers and tacked on 26 cents per liter. Thats 98 cents of pure profit per gallon till that service station gets a new load of fuel in. Now most people cant sit in front of a gas station all day to see if a tanker really comes in when they raise prices. But my hotel room faces the service station so I am on to there scam... This service station made a hell of alot of profit off the fuel that was already in the tanks underground. Im sure this surprises no one here.

I really wish someone would force the issue of alternate fuel and stick it in the petroleum industries ars. I know people have heard of the 100 mile per gallon fuel system/ carb. Truth or fiction? If true why has someone not been able to build another. All this crap about oil is blulsiht, we all need to seriously think about pooling and riding bicycles ( not to mention exercise would do some of us good). I may just go buy me a horse.

by the way 3.09 a gallon oak grove kentucky.

Was $2.99 for reg. unleaded almost everywhere in the St Louis area last night at 2 am when I got off work. News showed a truck stop on Illinois side at $3.49 though....

My guess is that the freakin oil companies are using the hurricane and Labor day weekend to gouge on us though....I'm thinkin it might go down after the holiday.....(hopin)

N.W. Indiana $2.89 on the way to work $3.15 on the way home. BP stations on the way home were out of 87 octane because of no deliveries. Mobil stations at $2.99 had people in line blocking the roads trying to get in. What idiots.
