Best i can describe is is a slight texture that is smooth and flowed together. The longer you soak the paper, the more it kinda melts together. Give it a try on something unimportant to get the feel of it. After its dry, the more coats of urethane, the deeper looking effect. Hope this answers your question.

Looks great. This thread has definitely given me inspiration to fix my own very broken dash. Have a bunch of more pressing mechanical issues to deal with first, but I'll eventually get there.
