Default battery connected backwards

some one connected my battery backwards, and now it starts right up as with no key in the ignition soon as I connect the battery the proper way.

Sounds like some of the harness melted together and is shorting the system. I'm kind of amazed the system still works and nothing blew.

The starter and IGN are getting 12V directly from the battery and while I am not sure where to start looking, I have a feeling this process might be a LOT easier if you source a used engine bay harness and just replace the whole thing.

True story: I once put instant coffee in the microwave and traveled backward in time.

LMAO..

Anyway, you could have hosed the PCM too. But Id try a new starter relay first.

I almost though that too...but the engine runs. We all know how sensitive the PCM is to things and how one little issue will keep these engines from running. I think if the computer were hosed there is no way it was be able to maintain mixture and timing.

I should have worded that different as usual. But thats why I suggested starter relay. The hosed part of the pcm might be the voltage regulator or who really knows what else in the pcm. Anyway, I still would start with the relay, then move on to the wire harness in the column and onto the ignition switch itself. Just trying to not overload the OP you know?
