Default So let's say I want to change gears

Eventually I want to upgrade 4.10 gears because, well, 3.55s just suck. Now what would be the best way to go about this?

Should I buy some gears and just change them out with my current axle? Or should i really just wait for a Dana 60 to pop up on Craigslist? I know stock wheels will fit 33s, I think, but I have third gen 17" wheels on my truck, so how would that work out. I don't really want a lift but I guess its always an option.

If I were to swap in a 2500 rear end, could I replace my leaf springs with the larger 2500 springs? Cuz that would be cool.

There's a whole lot of ways to go about this and it's difficult, imo, with the amount of info you posted.

Why 4.10s?
What's your purpose/target/goal?
Want to convert the 1500 to a 2500?
Changing up in axles moves you from 5 lug to 8 lug.....

Converting to a 2500 would be neat but I don't wanna mess with going from 5 lug to 8 lug.

Basically I want bigger tires, but not crazy, and to re gear to gain back performance similar to stock.

For 33s, go with 4.10s, you will be a mileage and performance similar to stock. 4.56 if you plan to run 35s one day

unless you've got a boat load of money to spend, don't even think about this.

shop for gears at Randys, PORC, completeoffroad, etc.
you'll also need Master Rebuild/Bearing kit for front and rear.
you'll also need a 3.92/4.11 carrier for the front dana44 OR "thick gears" with 3.55 carrier.
if you want new LSD's or Lockers, buy those too.
plan on spending a ****load of money, probably $800-1000 on gears and bearing plus more on LSD.

next - find an installer. plan on another $500-1000 for labor. be clear on warranty. are you getting one? what if its the parts? what if its the install but the installer blames it on the parts?

forget the 2500 conversion.

Gears + install kits can be had for $300 per diff. $600 total parts investment if carriers are re-used.
