Default 2001 Dodge Ram Sport 5.9L 360 gas O/D not working

Ok, so I just bought my Ram a week ago and have already dropped a lot of money into it with it having a blown head gasket... So, that was the only known problem at the time... Well, while I was driving home I realized that O/D isn't working... The only code that's showing is for a oxygen sensor that I just replaced today after talking to a transmission mechanic and him saying that that was a problem on a truck he fixed earlier.. My Dodge drives great and shifts great too through the first 3 gears... I talked to the previous owner and he said the tranny was replaced 3 years ago... New or used I never asked.. The tranny fluid seems ok but maybe a little thin? If that's possible? I don't have much money now after buying the truck and having the motor fixed but I need my truck but 13 miles to the gal is just crazy!!! Please help!!?

Ask the PO if it had OD when the tranny was replaced. If not, then it most likely was replaced with the wrong year tranny and just needs a Governor pressure switch(transducer) and TCC/OD lockup solenoid unit for the year of your truck.

And 13 mpg is not bad. Pretty close to average on these..

Stop at a shop that can pull Enhanced Chrysler DTC's with a OBD2 tool, most O'Reiilys can do that for free, and write all codes down. IS the O/D off light on when you start it?

I agree 13mpg is average mpg for these trucks. Post up your rpms and mph so we can compare.

I talked to the PO and he said it is a used tranny but when he parked it, the O/D was working.. At 60 mph I'm running about 2700 rpm's... But I'm concerned bc earlier I was driving about 50 and it seemed as it kicked into O/d bc I was running at 1600 rpm's but as soon as I had to slow down to turn, it wouldn't kick into O/d... I may have been wishful thinking but, usually at 45 I'm running just about 2000 rpm's... I've looked over many forums on here where it seemed other people were having the same problems but idk if they ever get it fixed or if they don't just post how they fixed it... I know it's hard to diagnose the problem without looking at the truck but all the transmission mechanics here want to charge 300.00 to just diagnose the problem...I'd prefer to fix it myself so I know that the parts are put on right and I don't have to pay someone to turn bolts that I can turn for free...

Btw, when I start the truck, the "O/d off" light is off. And I have tried driving it and turning it off several times but it still won't kick into O/D...

I bet the PO is not telling the truth. Since you are on talking terms with the PO , ask him what year the replacement tranny came out of.

PO is a liar. 2700 RPM at 60MPH? That is too high for it too be in O/D unless either the TCC/TCOC is slipping or O/D clutch is slipping. Check your ATF. What does it look like? I have a 46RE coming out soon, needs a rebuild if you want another tranny to rebuild off of vehicle.

So I called him and asked where the transmission come from and he said it come out of a 2000 dodge... Idk how true it is... I don't know if it helps but on top of the tranny there is a 064-9... There are stickers on it still with bar codes but can't make them all out.. I checked the fluid again and it looks to be a little over full but seems very thin... I warmed up the truck and put it in neutral btw.. I'm very confused on this tranny..
