Default How I fixed my Transmission

Hi guys,

I'm an on and off lurker who owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500 (318).
I was having some problems with my transmission not shifting a week after I pulled it off a used car lot. It would not upshift ( mainly from 2nd to 3rd) unless I went from N to Drive and then it would shift into 3rd and everything was fine.
Well over the last 2 weeks It was becoming worse and worse and I was having to do the N to Drive trick almost every stop light.

I went to Oriellys and purchased this:
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0073&ppt=C0338

I installed it and my truck now shifts perfectly without hesitation.
When I pulled the old solenoid the bottom screen was very dirty and clogged with use even though my fluid was in perfect condition. So I'm going to leave this here in hopes of another poor welding student can make their truck last a few good years.

Thanks for all yall's help guys.

Was there a magnet in the bottom of tranny pan? That solenoid is the usual suspect on shift issues. Little pricey from Oriellys, but the right part!

Welcome to DF. Glad you got it fixed!

I highly recommend throwing a remote filter in there where the anti-drainback valve goes. It'll help to prevent that from happening again.

Well I live in Thrall, Texas so the wait on internet order is about 3 days longer then they promise me.

Yes sir, this was the second time I pulled the pan. The first time I pulled it I changed the tranny fluid and cleaned the magnet spotless.
My magnet looked a little better than that, just hair no chunks.

When I threw it back together it did not fix the problem at all, so I decided to go with the solenoid.

I need to get an electric fan on this thing. Stock I was getting 14.666 mpg.
I installed a cold air intake using the Dodge durango intake cover, and I found a delta flowmaster 40 series for 15 bucks all together. I prolly need to get a high flow cat but Im scared that the back pressure is what is saving me gas money.

High flo cat won't hurt anything. You're in Wiclo? They have emission testing there? THere are several threads here on electric fans.

Yes I'm in Wilco,
I do have to pass emission testing, Although it doesnt really matter I can have the cat on and off in 30min so ( I can acetylene weld pretty good) I could put it on for the inspection and take it off after.

Also If yall need any parts let me know. I go to my local wrench a part and the prices are dirt cheap.
