Newman's link confirms the carrier breaks. For D60/D70 4.56 and up is a break.

Yes the dodge D70 is 32 spline.

So....you want 4.10 or 4.56? I'm unsure from what you've posted as to your want.

For the front, I have a line on a ARB for a D60. It's in a front Dodge axle currently. I'd have to recheck the spline count. It was installed with 5.13 r&p. Priced at $750 It is 30 spline, but his outers are 35 spline Cromo. Passenger side CAD delete -- single shaft too.

For the rear, and not knowing what you're doing with the rig (i.e., types of terrain) I'll say a Detroit is plenty good. They are streetable and will chirp a bit if your turning a good pace. You can keep it down taking your time. Detroit will be more forgiving in this regard than the trutrac. Truthfully, I'd really recommend you get a factory LSD for the rear from your brief description. Check out the Cummins forums. Use "searchtempest.com" to search Craig's List.

i currently run 36" toyo tires on a 99 long bed quad cab. its got 3.55 ratio with a factory limited slip rear. i am thinking i want to go up to 4.56 to bring things back to a stock feel. in the front i KNOW i want a selectable, either OX or ARB but the rear is whats screwing me over...

i cant find a LSD outside of a trac-lok or a detroit for my dana 70. i fear the detroit would be to extreme for a street truck that will only get some off road and also may end up towing. i can find some eatons for 4.10 and down but none for 4.10 and up, so im thinking... maybe i can take my factory LSD and use some kind of spacer or thick gears to add 4.56 in the rear. maybe i can buy a new carraige and install a lock rite, or i can spend a load more cash and buy an ARB for the rear. i just dont think i need a selectable in the rear...

what do you guys think? is a detroit to much? is a lock rite strong? should i go selectable? cost is a major issue here... if i can spend 600.00 on the rear diff instead of 1200.00 that would be huge. i CAN drop the money for a ARB front and rear but i have more to repair on this truck than just gearing.

thanks

I vote detroit rear, and open front, unless you plan to really wheel that thing.

I have been stuck in stupid **** to many times to keep an open front. i was looking at an OX locker as its cheaper than an arb.

id be going with 4.56 gearing i believe due to my 35" tires, i think 4.88 is to high and 4.10 to low.

i will be hauling, street running, towing (5th wheel), and a few other uses. I see on the diff site that if i go 4.56 i will need a new carriage. i was thinking on rebuilding my factory LSD in the rear as it seems to be doing well and i worry that a Detroit may be to aggressive for towing. if i did rebuild the factory then i would need to use thick gears to utilize the factory carriage assembly on 4.56 gearing.

the only other thing im thinking of is perhaps changing spline count but i think i have the medium to heavy grade spines as is. if i remember correctly my rear was a 35 and front was a 32 (off the top of my head i may be wrong about that).

i was planing to buy all the bearings and shims for the rebuild but had not looked at a kit.

You should go locker up front and LSD in the rear since you want/need an all around kind of rig. With street and towing the LSD will be better and less expense in my opinion. I have an OX in the front and Auburn LSD in the rear.

The heavier the load, the less aggressive a detroit would feel. I understand where you are coming from though. Fyi your dana 80 rear = 35 spline, dana 60 front = 30 spline. I wouldn't worry about upgrading.
