Default Stuck wheel

This is not your ordinary rusted rim issue. Fair warning! So I took my 1999 R1500 4x4 with the 5.2L, to Firestone for some new rubber yesterday. I sat there forever, and the guy came out and explained to me that my rim was stuck to my hub assembly. I told him to hit it with a hammer, which he tried and failed. He told me to take the car to another shop and get the wheel off and bring it back to him so he can change the tire over. I took off the lugs today and I hit the wheel pretty hard and the thing didn't budge an inch! I did notice that there seems to be a lock on the hub itself the goes over the rim. It looks to be some special tool that I need to remove this. Does anyone know what the heck this thing is? I have attached a pic.

its nit a lock. thats just the outer portion of the axle shaft. spray what ever flavor of penetrating oil you have on hand inot the lug holes, and around the hub opening on the rim, and let it sit for a while. it will come off. use a sludge hammer if needed, and hit the tire with it. it WILL come off eventually!

all right. this is how its done. just like taking off a brake drum or rotor thats rusted on. take a big matto (hammer) ball peen type. smash between the lugs with the peen side all away around. after a wile the rust will brake up and the wheel will come off. been there done that. just be ready to replace a couple of studs if you smash them with the matto. good luck
