Exhaust for towing
I think I read somewhere that staying with a single exhaust and using 2 1/2 inch pipe was the best on a 1998 Ram 2500 with 360 engine used for towing a travel trailer. Any thoughts or suggestions? I am not looking for a load sound, should I go with a Flowmaster? Thanks!
A free flowing exhaust of any setup should work for towing. I can't see how one would work better then another unless you just got crazy and ran 5" pipe.....
I've heard Flowmasters are restrictive in order to produce the sound. MagnaFlow is a good choice.

360 engine huh? That really narrows it down... gas truck or diesel?
on a gas truck you don't need to watch the EGTs so exhaust setup isnt a big deal.
If its a gasser (assuming you've fixed a possibly blown plenum gasket) then just get a less restrictive y-pipe, a high flow cat, and a quiet muffler. Flowmaster can be restrictive, I vote magnaflow too.

My choice: Gibson Swept Side single. It's not really loud, just "sounds like a truck" to me. I installed mine along with a Magnaflow direct-fit cat and my butt dyno says the bottom end power improved.
Flowmasters are crap, in my entirely too arrogant opinion.

I have a Thrush 17715, love it!
You can hardly tell I changed it when running on the highway. And it flows better than stock, I could feel a huge difference in the amount of exhaust coming out of the pipe when I had it put in.
OH YEAH! No drone either!

+1 on the Gibson single system. I'm running their cat-back system with a gutted cat. It's actually pretty loud since the cat is empty, beforehand though, it was just the right tone.

Magnaflow on mine and sounds quiet at hwy speed. and enough bark to blow by someone and let them know to move over. flows better then flow masters. buy quality and do the job once for a long time.
