Default Clunking noise after 4 low driving

Hi, the last two times that I was in the woods driving on the 4 low I got a clunking noise coming from the front after going from 4L to 2H. It happens as I get up to speed on the fireroad on 2H and goes away after couple hundred meters.

I'm thinking CAD disengaging slow but I am not very familiar with that system, I have a feeling I will be soon lol.

Thanks.

sounds like a front axle u-joint to me. theyre pretty simple to replace, and only take about an hour total time.

then its probably a front drive shaft u-joint. you said it only clicks when in 4x4, and not in 2wd, so that makes me think drive shaft.

+1 on u-joints. In reality, time has no bearing on how long a u-joint will last. You've got 4 up front, check them all.

So you guys are talking about the front axle drive shaft U-joints right??

No it doesn't click in 4x4, only after I switch from 4L to 2H.

You have u-joints on the driveshaft and on the end of the axles. Check them all. No matter how new they are they could go bad in a day.

I'm thinking that your best guess is likely correct -- slow disconnect. It's a very simple system, easy to diagnose if you don't mind letting some oil fall out. And if there's no oil in there, then the symptoms make perfect sense.

Grab the factory service manual from the FAQ/DIY section, and give it and the CAD a good look.
